1. How could the EXITAIR Bio™ help in case of biological warfare?

Since the EXITAIR Bio™ filters are composed of activated carbon layers and a HEPA filter layer, it will give adequate  respiratory protection.

In the case of a biological or poisonous gas attack, the EXITAIR Bio™ can provide the first line of defence for those of us who don't happen to have a respirator, gas mask, or SCBA airpack immediately available. The EXITAIR Bio™ can provide a stopgap measure to give you the extra time to exit a contaminated area. It is small and flexible enough to carry in a woman's purse, fit in a man's inside suit pocket, or to store in an office desk, car glove compartment, or any handy location.

2. Why are there more victims from suffocation than burns?

A good example would be a hotel in which a fire is confined to a single room. It may kill people situated elsewhere in the building far away from that room because toxic gases may spread via the filtration system. It is important to remember that the longest ladders used by firemen do not extend past the 8th floor.

3. Why do I need an EXITAIR Bio™ hood?

We know that 80% of fire-related deaths are caused by smoke inhalation and not by the fire itself. The EXITAIR Bio™ is an effective means of first-aid against the effects of toxic gases which are released with the combustion of synthetic materials. Whether it be for a hotel, school, or office building, your clients and staff will appreciate this extra evacuation device.

Did you know...?

.. that 80% of fire fatalities are due to smoke inhalation.
4. What are EXITAIR Bio™  hoods?

EXITAIR Bio™ hoods are pocket sized emergency escape hoods. They will give you the extra time to exit a contaminated area or any place where fire and smoke  are present, while allowing freedom to breathe and communicate. In addition to protecting the respiratory system, EXITAIR Bio™ hoods protect the hair, eyes and face from smoke, fire, and sparks. Combined with other safety measures, such as smoke detectors, and escape planning, the EXITAIR Bio™ hoods provide a better chance of survival when encountering thick black toxic smoke.

5. How is the EXITAIR Bio™ hood effective?

EXITAIR Bio™ hoods are  made of three components that provide adequate protection.

i. A polyimide film
This Polyimide film completely covers the head and resists temperatures reaching 800°F (425°C). It is important to note however; humans cannot resist temperatures surpassing 300°F (150°C). The Polyimide film is used to resist sparks from burning a hole in the hood, keeping the smoke out. NASA uses Polyimide film to insulate the interiors of space shuttles from intense heat and extreme cold.

ii. Filters
The filters are located near the base of the hood, exactly where your mouth would be when wearing the hood. The main component of the filtering system is “activated carbon”. Activated carbon filters are world renowned for their efficient filtering of toxic fumes, the same fumes found in smoke caused by fire.

The filters are also composed of a HEPA filter which is a high performance air filter. HEPA filter blocks 99,97% of particles up to 0,3 microns, that is almost 2240 times less than width of human hair. These small particles (including pets fir, pollen, dust, mustiness spores, and bacteria) can cause significant sufferings.

There are two filters; one in front one in back. In an emergency when every second counts or in a panic state the user will never have to wonder if he/she is wearing their hood properly.

iii. A neoprene™ collar
This piece of latex is situated at the base of the hood. Neoprene is very malleable, thus, it is easy to open and pull over the top of your head. It adapts to any sized neck, creating a seal. Not permitting the entrance of smoke. Neoprene™ resists heat up to 300°F (150°C).

6. Can I fight fires with EXITAIR Bio™ hoods?

That is not why the EXITAIR Bio™ hood was created. We cannot stress enough that our escape hoods are for evacuation purposes only. Always keep in mind that the hoods do not contain an oxygen supply but are strictly a filtration device. In case of fire, use the EXITAIR Bio™ to evacuate the premises safely. Don’t put your life at risk and let the firemen deal with the fire.

7. Is the EXITAIR Bio™ re-useable?

No. It is clearly marked on the package “OPEN IN CASE OF EMERGENCY ONLY”. The activated carbon filter goes to work as soon as you open the package, absorbing particles found in the air.

8. Does the EXITAIR Bio™ have an expiry date?

In its vacuum packed state, your EXITAIR™ hood can last up to five years from its manufacturing date. For example if the expiration date is the year 2005, that particular smoke hood was manufacture in the year 2000. During that five-year period, no maintenance or inspections are needed other than to assure that the sealed bag has not been opened or broken, in which case it would have to be replaced. After the expiration date, the escape hood needs to be replaced. The expiration date is clearly marked on the package.

9. What are the advantages of EXITAIR™ hoods?

i. EXITAIR Bio hoods are lightweight (3 1/2 oz) and compact (7 1/2” X 4 1/2”X 3/4”) in their vacuum-sealed package.

ii. EXITAIR Bio hoods are manufactured to fit everyone, young and old. In a few, fast and easy steps you can don your EXITAIR Bio escape hood, and commence your evacuation.

iii. EXITAIR Bio hoods assure peripheral vision, hands free usage and unimpeded communication. You can actually hear, see and talk while wearing an EXITAIR Bio hood.

iv. Our suggested retail price makes our escape hoods, affordable for everyone.

10. Why pay £37.60 for a small simple package?

All components of the hood are state of the art material. It is more than a small simple package. The EXITAIR Bio has been developed on three major criteria: 1) pocket size 2) ease of use 3) affordability. In time of panic, we consider that there is no time to read instructions or go through several steps to use an escape hood. It looks simple and was meant to be simple.

11. Where should I store my EXITAIR Bio™ escape hood?

AT HOME:
Keep your EXITAIR Bio™ hood in a visible and accessible location. In the event of a fire emergency, you need to get to it as quickly as possible. We suggest you keep it near your bed at night or on the back of the bedroom door. You can also store a couple of hoods in one of our acrylic wall cases for quick and easy access.

AT WORK:
Keep your EXITAIR Bio™ taped with Velcro™ on the side of your desk or filing cabinet, or place it on the back of your office door. Once again, it is important for your EXITAIR Bio™ hood to be visible. You can also store a couple of hoods in one of our acrylic wall cases for quick and easy access. For those who don’t work in an office, the hood can be carried with you, placed in a pocket or purse.

WHEN TRAVELING:
Whether you travel by land, air or sea, your EXITAIR Bio™ hood can travel with you. Put it in your pocket, your carry-on bag, your purse or your briefcase. How convenient!

12. What makes the EXITAIR Bio™ stand out from its competition?

The EXITAIR Bio™ hood is a product that goes beyond general expectations. Simple to use, it can be slipped over your head in less than 10 seconds. It ensures air filtration without having breathing apparatuses connected to your mouth, hindering your verbal communication.

Therefore, it places very few restrictions in regards to breathing and gives you all the freedom needed to speak and call for help. The Apical membrane is transparent and does not restrict viewing range even for those who wear glasses. This wide-range viewing is, of course, of great importance when exiting fire-stricken premises. Be assured that everything we produce has been well-researched in order to best facilitate the evacuation of precious life from dangerous areas.

13. Does the product have liability insurance?

Yes, EXITAIR Bio™ is fully insured by the manufacturers for liability pertaining to the use of EXITAIR Bio™ hoods.
